SBTS Needs You Now More Than Ever

Dear SBTS friends,

As our fundraising deadline looms, we’re reminded of a line from The Tempest that feels especially true right now:

“What’s past is prologue.”

For Shakespeare by the Sea, what’s past is powerful.

For 28 years, we’ve brought admission-free Shakespeare directly to communities-into public parks, under open skies, where neighbors gather, stories are shared, and artists practice their craft. We are different from other Shakespeare companies because we come to you. We meet people where they already are and transform public spaces into places of connection.

That history matters. And it’s why we’re writing today.

Thanks to 239 generous supporters, we’ve raised $72,868 toward our $200,000 goal. We are deeply grateful to every single person who has stepped up.. Your belief in this work is sustaining and humbling.

Now, with just three days left until our January 31 deadline, we need to raise the remaining $127,132.

Almost a half a million people have experienced Shakespeare by the Sea. Just imagine what could happen if even a fraction of those audience members who have not yet donated, stepped forward now and encouraged others to do the same. Small gifts, shared widely, can change everything.

The size and scope of our 2026 season will be determined by what happens next. These funds are needed to move forward with booking artists, confirming cities, securing permits, and bringing Shakespeare back to the parks where it belongs.

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to give, this is it.

If you’re able, here are a few ways to help in these final days:

• Make or increase a donation before January 31
• Share this campaign with friends, colleagues, or family who love the arts .
• Connect us with someone who believes in community, culture, and public programming

As our world becomes more divided and isolated, free, live theatre in public spaces remains a powerful way to bring people together. Access to theatre is not a luxury. It is a powerful, sustaining force.

Thank you for believing in Shakespeare by the Sea, for carrying this tradition forward, and for helping ensure that what comes next is just as meaningful as what has come before.
