Still timeless. Still ticketless. Still admission-free. Always magical.

2026 PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE & LOCATIONS

This year we will produce one focused, high-impact play for a four-week tour that will continue bringing admission-free Shakespeare to communities across Southern California.

WHY ONE PLAY?

With our year-end campaign goal not fully met and costs continuing to rise, we took a careful look at how to preserve this beloved community program. While we could not afford traditional two-play schedule this year, we realized we could focus our resources on one powerful production rather than pause the season and still offer a great summer program on a reduced scale.

Even in this streamlined format, Shakespeare by the Sea will serve a dozen communities and more than 10,000 audience members with admission-free Shakespeare. This approach allows us to continue serving our audiences while building toward a stronger and more sustainable future.

WHY MACBETH?
If we are producing one play, the choice must matter.  It means intention. It means choosing a story powerful enough to carry the weight of this moment. And Macbeth is that story.

Few plays capture the dangers of ambition and power as vividly as Macbeth. It demonstrates what happens when grief hardens into ambition, when fear overtakes wisdom, and when those in power silence the voices that speak difficult truths. It is a story about consequence, and integrity.
