An Afternoon of Stories & Southern Hospitality
Written and Performed by Clarinda Ross

An unforgettable journey through five generations of Appalachian women.

With warmth, humor, and remarkable transformation, Clarinda Ross brings to life the voices of the women who shaped her family and heritage. Using only a few simple props, she embodies mothers, daughters, and grandmothers spanning more than a century of life in the rural Appalachian mountains.

About the Artist

Born in Georgia and raised in Boone, North Carolina, Clarinda Ross grew up steeped in Appalachian storytelling traditions. At age 24 she received an Individual Artist Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which launched the creation of this play.

From My Grandmother’s Grandmother Unto Me became a runaway hit at the Spoleto Festival, appeared at the Olympic Arts Festival, and was later adapted into a PBS film starring Ross.

Clarinda previously appeared at our former theatre location with her acclaimed solo show Spit Like a Big Girl, and we are delighted to welcome her back.

Performance • Artist Talkback • Front Porch Refreshments

Following the show, join Clarinda Ross for a talkback conversation, then linger for Front Porch Refreshments in the spirit of Appalachian hospitality.

Because sometimes the best stories continue after the curtain falls.
