Meet the Cast Members
Alden Bettencourt (Duke of Bedford/Youth)
Alden is from Hanford, CA and a recent graduate of Pepperdine University with a BA in Theatre and Music. Recent credits include the World Premiere of The Abode at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Curtains at Pepperdine University (Belling), and a lead role in the new podcast musical, Monotony by Jared Taylor and Sarah Luery. This is Bettencourt’s first production with SBTS. (Cast List)
Paul Burt (Canterbury/King of France)
Paul is excited to join this band of brothers at Shakespeare by the Sea for one of his favorite Shakespearean shows. Paul has been doing theater in the OC for most of the last 25 years with over 80 shows to his credit and more than 20 by the Bard. In the past, he has been Sir John Falstaff in both Henry IV part 1, and Merry Wives of Windsor (for which he was given a Best Actor Nod, in Huntington Beach), and was part of OC Weekly’s Best Ensemble production of Taming of the Shrew, as Baptista. Other favorite roles include Pozzo in Waiting for Godot, and Tito Mirelli in Lend Me A Tenor. Thank you to all his friends and peers in the theater community who support his artistic pursuits. Jon Cates (Westmoreland/Pistol/Scroop)
Jon is happy to return for his second season with SBTS. Last year, he played Florizel in The Winter’s Tale. (Cast List)
Jonathan Fisher (King Henry V)
Jonathan is excited to return to SBTS for a second season after appearing in last year’s The Winter’s Tale (as Clown) and The Merry Wives of Windsor (as Sir High Evans). Jonathan comes to Southern California by way of South Florida, Chicago and Rhode Island, and holds a BA in Theatre and English Literature from Northwestern University. Some favorite recent theatre credits include: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (A Noise Within); Elevada, Tribes and he Eight Reindeer Monologues (Chance Theater); Macbeth (Sacramento Theatre Company) and Henry IV Part 1 (Shakespeare Orange County). BJ Grip (English Lord/Grey/French Ambassador/Constable)
BJ is excited to be making his Shakespeare by the Sea debut with the amazing cast of Henry V. While at USC, he discovered a passion for the classics that has led him to play multiple roles in a Shakespeare revue entitled Attack of the Bard; the Nun’s Priest in The Canterbury Tales in London; and, most recently, Le Bret in Cyrano. He has also helped to write and produce numerous original musicals in LA and Orange County. He would like to thank his parents for bearing with him while he figures things out and to his friends Joel, Trevor, and Darah for inspiring him to continue pursuing this crazy dream. (Cast List)
Jane Hink (Quickly/Alice)
Jane is excited to work with SBTS. She has performed in and directed over 25 Shakespeare plays from the East Coast to the West, and has loved it since she snuck her grandmother’s car out without a license to see Romeo and Juliet as a teenager. Among the roles she’s played are Hamlet in Hamlet, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, Dionyza in Pericles, Prince of Tyre, Lady Macbeth, Ophelia in Hamlet, Rosalind in As You Like It and Viola in Twelfth Night. On TV she’s been seen as Doris the cleaning lady in many Mindy Project episodes, also recurred on Nickelodeon’s School of Rock and guested on Veep, House of Lies, Getting On, Profiler, Frasier and many more. She would like to dedicate her performances this summer to her uncle, Bob Hink, a Shakespearean Scholar. (Cast List)
Andy Kallok (Bishop of Ely)
“Once more unto the breach, dear friends.” Not one to listen to reason, Andy returns to SBTS for his 14th season. He has played the “old guy with the grey beard” in 25 productions since 2002. For the Long Beach Shakespeare Company, Andy played Nestor in Troilus and Cressida, Prospero in The Tempest, and for the past 3 years, Scrooge in their annual reading of A Christmas Carol. Recently he has turned his attention to performing material written during this millennium by acting in several independent and student film projects. (Cast List)
Brendan Kane (Dauphin/Williams/Governor)
Brendan is thrilled to be making his SBTS debut. He was raised in an Air Force family and brought up all around the country, and has found a home in Los Angeles. A graduate of Oklahoma City University, he was last seen as Max in Lend Me a Tenor at the Long Beach Playhouse. Other past credits include: California Suite (Noisy Nest); The First and the Last (Hollywood Fringe 2018); As You Like It (Culver City Public Theatre); Macbeth (Annapolis Shakespeare Company); Much Ado About Nothing (Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre). Aaron McGee (Cambridge/Montjoy)
Aaron is excited to be sharing his talents for the first time with SBTS and their production of Henry V. He is a graduate of the Theatre Arts program at CSU, Fresno, and has over 4 years of acting experience in the surrounding area. His most recent credits include playing Lord Buckingham in The Three Musketeers at the Norris Theatre, Eoghan Hogan in Unbound Production’s Wicked Lit ‘18 and Topper and Puppeteer in SCR’s A Christmas Carol. Some past favorite roles of his include playing Guildenstern in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and the Fox in The Little Prince. Chris Nelson (Understudy-Chorus/Exeter & Fluellen)
Chris is excited to be returning for his 10th season and 11th show with SBTS. After earning his BA in Theatre at USC in 1998, he worked 2 seasons in Salinas, California at the Western Stage where he developed his love of Steinbeck. In 2001, Christopher joined SBTS in The Tempest. Years later he returned to join Stephanie, Patrick, BJ and Cy for the first time in Julius Caesar, and found a Shakespeare family which he has found difficult to leave. When Christopher is not performing Shakespeare in the summer, he works as a high school theatre teacher at Downey High School, where in addition to directing In The Heights and Our Town this year, he continues to share his love of Shakespeare with his students. Greg Prusiewicz (Fluellen/English Lord)
Greg is an actor/director hailing from Detroit, MI. Previous SBTS credits include Camillo in The Winter’s Tale, Ross in Macbeth, Gremio in The Taming of the Shrew, Pisanio in Cymbeline, Orlando in As You Like It, Francis Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Osric in Hamlet and special, one night only performance as Rodrigo in Othello and Ferdinand in The Tempest. Greg recently co-produced and performed in SBTS’s Pub Shakespeare version of Twelfth Night. He also performs with Trashcan Shakespeare, appearing in Lysistrata, Troilus and Cressida, Twelfth Night, The Two Gentlemen of Verona and The Taming of the Shrew. For Little Fish Theatre, he has appeared in The Balcony Scene, The Night Before The Night Before Christmas, Halloween Chills and Thrills, The 39 Steps, Henry IV Part I, and the staged readings of Henry IV Part II and Henry V. Film/TV credits include HBO’s Hung and the independent film Win By Fall. Greg received his BFA from Otterbein University and trained at the Moscow Art Theatre under Sergei Zemtsov and Misha Lobanov. Olivia Schlueter-Corey (Katharine/Boy/Court)
Olivia is thrilled to be back for her 6th summer with SBTS! Previous SBTS roles include Banquo in Macbeth, Emilia in Othello, Celia in As You Like It, and Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and many more. She is also a company member at Little Fish; credits include Bloody Poetry, Pick of the Vine ‘17 and ‘18, and Domestic Tranquility, as well as various roles in the staged readings of Henry V and Henry IV part 2. Other favorite LA theatre credits include Stage Hand in With My Eyes Shut, Nina in The Nina Variations and the fight swing for Macbeth. Sean Spencer (Duke of Gloucester/Nym/Gower)
Since graduating from the New York Film Academy, Sean has appeared in various performances around the Los Angeles area. Most notably, his performance as Watson in Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure at the LAPC Theatre as well as various roles in The Laramie Project and as the stage hand in The Victory Theatre Center’s Resolving Hedda. In addition, he has taken steps to help further strengthen his performance studies by auditioning for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. As of late, Sean has taken a few steps back from performances due to concerns in the family, but has continued to stay in touch by stage managing the occasional show. (Cast List)
Patrick Vest (Chorus/Exeter)
Patrick has been with SBTS since 2002 and is delighted to be back again this year. Last year he played Leontes in The Winter’s Tale, which was maybe his favorite production ever. In previous years he has played such roles as Macbeth, Iago, Caliban, Bottom, Marc Antony, Mercutio, King John, Malvolio, Shylock, Gloucester, Orsino, and various other roles. He also directed All’s Well That Ends Well, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and As You Like It for SBTS. Patrick earned his MFA in acting from the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. He is one of the founding members of Little Fish Theatre in San Pedro, where he was recently seen in The Country House, Bloody Poetry, The Balcony Scene, Dinner with Friends, and Taking Sides. His goals remain to do every play in the canon and to work with Stephanie infinity more times. Patrick is also a member of The New American Theatre Company where he studies with Jack Stehlin, and has done many shows, most recently playing Duke Vincentio in Measure for Measure. However, his favorite role continues to be that of daddy to his two daughters, Olivia and Eleanor. (Cast List)
Benjamin White (Bates/York/Youth)
Benjamin is excited to make his SBTS debut. His love for Shakespeare began when he played Antipholus of Syracuse (Comedy of Errors) at Santa Monica College. For this performance, he was nominated to compete in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), where he received Best Actor in an NPP Play for his portrayal of Ryan in The Moment After. Ben has also appeared at the Long Beach Playhouse as Sebastian in The Tempest. His most recent role was Bicarat (The Three Musketeers) at the Norris Theatre. (Cast List)
